I know most of us are mostly swamped with work/ school / kids/ family and what have you, that you forget to get away. I mean, the Bahamas sounds amazing but what if you can’t be there right now? Getting away means MENTALLY getting away. Clearing your mind by doing something small for yourself, something that you love doing , makes the biggest difference. We come back more refreshed and ready to conquer whatever duties we have to get done. A lot of people go out to bars and drink, go out and rage. That’s great! Personally, I’ve grown out of it. After raging so much last year, being all about EDM and house, all about spending rounds of Patron and not remembering what happened the night before, I’ve grown up. I’m over it.
Yup, I’m a grandma and I’m proud. I have converted to Netflix. On my days off I love cooking and staying home. I have this weird love for grocery shopping and picking out what to eat for the week. Don’t laugh but It’s insanely therapeutic. On top of that, I’ve started looking into how to stay just a little bit more healthy. Through eating more organic fruits and vegetables, cooking my boyfriend’s paleo meal for the week, doing more squats and taking care of my skin more, I’ve seen that it’s lifted my mood and have gotten me more balanced as a person. The biggest addicting therapeutic regimen I’ve gotten so hooked on lately have been baths.
Okay, So enough ranting about how much of a converted grandmother I have become, wife life ehem. Just kidding. I’m really here to share my bath regimen.
So many of us concentrate on only one part of our skin – our face while neglecting the other 90% of the organ. Our skin is known to be the largest organ. If we take care of everything else, why not take care of this one too!
1. Lemon Soak
After a hard day of work, what could be better than coming home and taking a warm detoxing bath? A lemon slice bath does exactly that. The actual benefits of the bath are:
- Warming up and relaxing the muscles.
- Lemon pulls harmful toxins out of your body through your skin.
- Uplifting your spirits through the scent of the bath.
- Evening your body’s skin tone.
That’s right, this bath will improve your mental health, physical health, and it will make your skin even and beautiful. To make the bath:
- Fill the bathtub with warm water.
- Slice 2-3 lemons and place in water.
- Allow the lemons to soak in the water for 2 min.
- Get in, and ENJOY!
Visualize all the bad energy and toxins leaving your body through the skin, into the lemons to be purified and let back in the water for your body to re-use. Enjoy this time with yourself and be thankful that there are natural ways to feel beautiful!
2. Milk and Honey Bath
You may have heard of Cleopatra. She ruled Egypt. She was beautiful. And she bathed in milk and honey.
As cliche as it may sound, bathing in milk and honey is a fantastic way to get soft, supple skin – all over your body. The lactic acid in milk is very exfoliating, and honey is softening, moisturizing, and all-around beautifying.
The key is to use full-fat milk (or powdered milk) and pure honey. Full-fat milk will not only exfoliate the skin, but it will also moisturize.
How to take a milk and honey bath:
Pour 1-2 cups of milk (or 1/2 c. full-fat powdered milk) and 1/2 c. honey under running, warm water. Swish around to mix, and hop in.
3. Herbal Bath
There are a thousand different ways you can take an herbal bath, and each of them are decidedly healing and relaxing.
You don’t need to run out to the store for dried herbs to take a relaxing herbal bath, by the way. You already have perfect options in your kitchen cabinet right now:
- Sage: Uplifting, calming and astringent – GREAT for people with oily skin or back acne
- Rosemary: Relaxing and great for alertness, also astringent and clarifying
- Peppermint: Energizing (or relaxing) and clarifying
- Chamomile: Extremely relaxing and calming – perfect for dry or irritated skin
- Green Tea: Energizing and mood stabilizing – also antioxidant, antiaging, and very healing for any skin type
Green Tea is my ultimate favorite. Adding old petals from flowers help soften dry skin on your knees, elbows and feet.
How to take an herbal bath:
While you could make little herbal bath bags, my new favorite way is to brew a very strong tea ahead of time using the herbs (and essential oils, if I want an extra kick). Brew 1-2 cups of very strong herbal tea. Strain and add it to your running bathwater. Then, take the remaining brewed herbs and place them in the middle of a washcloth. Gather the washcloth together at the top and tie tightly with a string or a hair tie. Leave it in the bath as you soak, and then scrub well with it before getting out of the tub.
