I took some time to think about how I’ve become such a grandma. Realizing that it’s a whole combination of tons of things. From terrible friendships, to Horrible bosses, to losing in relationships and losing everything you’ve ever had in life, you come out of it stronger, wiser and well… a grandma. Life has given me tons of lemons. Till this day, I’ll be forever grateful for all the lemons I’ve ever received.
Tea instead of whiskey please. I’ve traded in all my 20 inch dresses for pants and ankle pencil skirts , my 6 inched hooker heels for oxfords and nikes, my late night parties for cooking and saving. My early 20’s have been a mess and when you’ve gone through messes, you learn a lot while you’re cleaning up after yourself. Here’s a few words of wisdom from your favorite grandma.
1. Wear soft clothing. What’s good for the outside is good for the inside.
2. Discover yourself. Know your likes, dislikes, favorites. Find out what makes you unique. What makes you cry, what makes you wake up excited. If you don’t know yourself, then I promise you no one ever will.
3.Say nice things behind people’s backs. Gossip always gets around, and how wonderful for someone to find out you have been spreading love instead of hatred.
4.Eat all the foods. Food is probably the best thing about being alive.
5.Make a budget for yourself
6.Coupons are always fantastic.
7. Aim to be better, not bitter. Grudges don’t fix things, let go while learning the lesson.
8.Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with voice trembling but start.
9.Surround yourself with people who have goals, who thrive, who have the same passion that you do. It keeps everyone motivated.
10. Cooking is therapeutic just as it saves you money.
11. A pet is wonderful but is secretly like having a child.
12. Freedom is not free. Everything has a price. Stay smart.
13. When you’ve found it in you to let go of useless people and purchases who do not bring your life any good, you’ll be happier.
14. Less is more, more or less.
15. Listen to your body. Sleep when you’re sleepy, eat when you’re hungry and go on adventure when you’re craving it. It’s healthy.
16. Take care of your credit like it’s your health. Health is wealth after all.
17. Whoever you become, whatever you achieve, remember where you came from.
18. Water your house plants.
19. Having a backpack will be your best purchase. Purses are impractical.
20. Invest where you benefit the most. Whether in businesses, relationships, your heart or your money, think long term.
It all goes so fast, and character makes the difference when it’s close. When when it’s all over, you’ll be glad you went through the tough times. I know I wouldn’t trade anything for anything better.
