Cosmetics has become a part of our lives, like breathing. Caking foundations as we layer stroked of cream and concealer, crumbling pounds of velvet lipsticks for that perfect pucker. But really, where did it all come from and more importantly, why was it created?
Playing with makeup has been known to have embedded into women’s blood streams since before we were born. It would be difficult to undo memories of myself first playing with my mom’s Fuchsia lipstick.
One word: Davis Factor.
Smashbox Cosmetics before the world knew it to be famous for it’s high bred primer, was first Smashbox Studios. The studio catered to makeup artists all across the globe. With high tech studios, Smash Box’s Factor a renowned fashion and celebrity photographer hosts the first ever Fashion Assistant’s show to hunt for new talent and emerging makeup artists.
Their studio knows no heated bulbs – but just light. Its perfect white backdrops, freshly painted each night for incoming shoots everyday. But ofcourse before this godly perfection of a studio was born, issues played a role. Tons of them. Heat was a factor that became a grand problem because it melted the cosmetics off faces during each photoshoot.
Factor then created the Primer, which birthed into the cosmetics line that we all know to be SmashBox Cosmetics. ( I know right?! ) So Ladies ( and Gentlemen), in this case, the studio came first before the amazing line of lipsticks!
I felt like one of the celebrities with the personal tour their amazing marketing department gave me. Being able to have seen the studios, each VIP room, dig my hands into the technology of the lightbulbs, and most importantly hear this history behind the line I blend my face with each day is astounding.
Thank you to Jenny McClary and the Creative Team for the amazing tour.
