*A non fashion related post to throw you lovelies off a bit.*
After years of trying to find the perfect shade and brand of foundation, I met Kat Von D’s Lock it Tattoo Foundation. Literally locking in every imperfection my face held, it held intact every pore I wanted to hide. Just as I got lucky with this amazing product, I found out that perhaps that’s not all that’s important. Maybe pores and blemishes were just as beautiful. Make up is a powerful tool and a wonderful way of enhancing your beauty. While it can give you a confidence boost, it should never become a crutch or a mask to hide behind. Mentoring high school senior Destiny for her graduate project has opened my eyes to what beauty is. Kat Von D, you’re not 100% right at all though I still do love your product. #SorryNotSorry Here’s a few more distorted views on beauty:
FALSE || Social Media has as well become a measure for beauty. The more likes and followers you have, it’s believed to make you feel more beautiful or make you seemingly beautiful. Followers can be bought easily like Cheetos on sale on isle 2 of your local supermarket.
Social media can significantly distort your view of beauty by bombarding people with unrealistic images. Every mark you’ve got, every tear or stain your skin owns has a story you need to own to. It’s beautiful because it survived and overcame; And so this makes you beautiful because you survived and overcame.
FALSE || Perfection is beautiful.
Actually, it’s real and genuine humans that are. Real like the ones who make mistakes, the ones who get angry, cry and feel unlovable at time. Vulnerability is sexy. Open up and be real. Your imperfections highlight you.
FALSE || Beauty is in the lens of your photographer.
The practice of retouching isn’t always sinister but where do we draw the line between artistic and the meddling of homogenous ideas of beauty? As a blogger, photoshoots are a part of my life like eating and breathing. But I am very strict with how my photos are taken and edited. The less editing, the more I adore them. Love yourself, not the idea of what you see yourself as after being processed through camera lenses and softwares.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When you feel good, it radiates. If that’s makeup, that’s completely fine, if it’s chocolates, go ahead. You are entitled. I usually go for both. However laughing with the one I love is what makes me feel the most beautiful ; Although a good dose of Kat Von D does make me feel invincible too.
What makes you feel beautiful?
