On Social Media from a Social Media Influencer. Hashtag no filter.
It fascinates me to see snapchats from Greece and seconds later another from The Netherlands. How we make friends and new relationships be it for work, play or what have you, through social media. I mean, living is literally done through our feeds in this generation, let’s be real. Don’t get me wrong, I love it! I do it for play and I do it as a career as you all know. It’s such an amazing tool that’s gotten our generation into a whole new level of communication ( or lack thereof — but we will talk about that at some other time). Opportunities, right at our fingertips, being able to share a message to millions at a click of a button is amazing. Being able to express anything we choose to share to the world, is as easy as a tweet or a caption to your new insta post. And just as it is that easy to influence and find yourself through social media, tons have easily gotten lost in it as well. Not everyone is who they “post” to be.
We all have been blessed with a creative side / chipotle critic talent / boredom. I get it. I get that we get to post whatever we want because duh, freedom. I get that there is that 99% who’d love to continuously post what looks to be this breathtaking , care free, effortless lifestyle. But to what extent do we sacrifice authenticity just for acceptance and security ?
I am certainly nothing close to a Beyonce / RiRi / Kardashian ( or a combination of ). I am also not here to bash social media ( HECK NO). I’m here to tell you to keep it as authentically you and as real as possible. Use this darn tool as a voice to lift others up through your authenticity. Isn’t it tiring to put up fronts? Spend money on something you can hardly afford just to take THAT picture, all just for show? If you got the means and worked hard for it then of course by all means I’m all about #TreatYoSelf, but keep it real. Keep it authentic. Keep it YOU. Dress how you like, not because the newest, hottest blogger is dressed that way. Eat good non-instagram worthy food and take a picture anyway. You’ve signed up to unsubconsciously know that you’re actually promoting a message whether you have 10 followers or a million. Make it good. Make it count. Make it inspiring but most of all, keep it real because just as it’s contagious to “copy someone else”, or try and be something you’re not through someone’s posts, it’s that easy to inspire others to be real if you are.
If you aren’t happy with life, you sure as heck won’t find happiness through trying to be someone else on social media. It is a tool and a powerful one at that. Use it to your advantage and sprinkle all the realness, ’cause that stuff’s free.
I’ve been doing this for over 8 years and trust me, real really works. You get to see how freeing it feels, how lighter you become, you get to see how people actually like you, for you and lastly, as everything else in this life works, as you get real and stay real, you inspire others to be too. That little comment saying ” You are inspiring to me “ or ” You’ve inspired me to …” will make you feel like no other ( yes guys, these comments keep me inspired and keep me going.) We are all one and the same, some just have better filters –but trust me, there’s no need to filter because we are all actually very different. Highlight your difference and use that to be YOU.
Real talk right here. Hashtag no filter.
