There’s never really a right way to do the sunnier coast. ‘Cept maybe if you went dressed in fleece and winter boots, then you’d totally be doing it wrong. But alas, there’s the best way to do this city justice. I’ve partnered up with Lumoid to make sure of it! Food, fun and sun all on my list.
1.Check in at Mama Shelter
Design and Comfort meshed in one, Mama will for sure down to meet all your needs and expectations. Minimalistic bedrooms, check. Perhaps with a tiny dose of character, check. Totally affordable, check. An amazing location close enough to downtown yet far enough from the dazed crowd, check. The cherry on top? Say hello to the Hollywood sign right outside your bedroom window. Booyah. They are accessible from Hotel Tonight’s amazing and easy to manage app! Download the app here and get booking asap!
2. Maru
Lunch,Dinner or drinks – Maru’s got you. Just when you thought they were any ordinary sushi joint, they surprise your palate with a twist of French in their courses. Enjoy grilled tenderloin lamb with a dash of pico de gallo, avo, pickled daikon on tortilla. If that doesn’t do it, go for the marinated black cod, crispy succulent brown rice and swiss chard. YUM. Ofcourse my all time favorite was the Scallop Risotto. Seared scallop, spigarello, fontina and soy reduction aka will leave you speechless ( like I was). Now wash that all down with their amazing Pomerosa – a mix of cocchi, americano rosa, lime, ginger, mint and pomegranate. Ofcourse the fun’s just getting started! Have another on me and pick my all time favorite, The Arugarita. A Dolin blanc vermouth arugula mixed with agave and lime.
Burn some calories while getting totally princessed up by the talented artists at this salon. I recently got an amazing Brazilian Keratin treatment done by the amazing Misty of Brighton Salons and it completely saves me time during the day when I get ready! Not to mention the amazing Joseph Henry who does fab work on trims and cuts!
Never a trip to Los Angeles without stopping by my favorite cafe ( who now serves Matcha drinks, BTW).
5. Lock and Key
Now you all know me as the granny of the bunch but this place totally was worth putting my shoes and jacket on for. The chicest speakesy right in the hub of Koreatown, specializing in mixology and signature drinks. Welcoming you with a very flapper-esque vibe, you are sure to be transported by their drinks and music. ( TIP: Their easy pickin’ menu has the best lollipop chicken. If you’re nice enough, they serve seconds. )
