More than a color. The story behind the name. I didn’t find GreyLayers, she moreso found me.
For someone who’s never watched any of the X men movies, I enjoyed being called ‘Jeanne Grey’ at my old jobs. It was catchy enough for me to get things done I suppose. We know who Jean Grey is, but who was Jeanne Grey?
Overall a girl who really just mis measures the amount of wrapping paper she’s ever needed. Woul die to go out as much as she could but really, just so she had reasons to wear her next shortest dress and her newest shade of burgundy shoes. Perhaps she drank too much too quickly, perhaps she wore 6 inched heels in beliefs that it would get her closer to heaven. Perhaps she loved her long hair – all 28 inches of it . Perhaps it was a reason to confidently smile back to the men who smiled at her and send along her discounted lash battings. She had become someone who she made others believed she was. So much so that she had believed this herself. So much so that she lost her true identity to this 6 inched, mini dress wearing, lash batting, crazy girl that she created. So much so that she was misjudged to be what she portrays she is.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this was me about 5 years ago. 4 am was too early – early to go home and sleep because I would rather be out wearing my short sequined dress and six-inched heels, my hair down to my thights – all 28 inches of it and my incredibly thick mask of makeup. This was me, but it really wasn’t me. It was what I did to find my place, to fit in.
Misjudgements here, misunderstandings of my identity there, I created my blog, Greylayers, to write about things that reflect who I truly am. Slowly, my blog transformed me. From 28 inches of mane, to a chin-lengthed bob. From 11 inched above the knee dresses and six inched heels to Trouser pants and white sneakers or leather slip ons. As I wrote and reflected, the reality of who I truly was, surfaced. Greylayers not only slowly showed the world my layers but slowly showed me mine. With that, I am forever grateful.
These are my layers.
