Grey Layers

of style and of substance

My top 4 local Jersey City go-to cafes

greylayers

If you’re anything like me, your blood may be made of coffee. I spend 90% of my life in cafes. Not just to order my daily dose of skinny double shot lattes or gawk at passers by, but to write blogposts like these and answer 800 emails a day.

Convenience plays a huge role in picking out my cafes. Cute is great, but far isn’t. I love Jersey City because it’s close enough to Manhattan, but not entirely too busy like the bigger city that is New York. A few decibels lower, a couple square feet smaller, but 100% more peaceful. I love this city.

Here are my go-to cafes:

  1. Beechwood Cafe

It’s safe to say that I live here. I come in at about 9 am to start my daily routine of reading, scouring the news, and answering emails in between sips of my latte. I don’t have much to say except that this place is my second home. I lose track of time thanks to their great staff, comfy seats, clean bathrooms ( need I say double ply?), fast wifi and ofcourse, great coffee.  I find myself leaving at 7 pm.

2. Short Grain

This place serves the best fusion bowls. You can’t have a bad day at all when really good curry bowls are serves with a side of really fast wifi. Yes, they have your regular cold brew, soy latte, skimmed americano and two splendas ( whatever ), but you’ll be extremely happy to find Vietnamese Cold Brew here , which is my favorite !

3. Bwe Cafe

Bwe was the very first cafe to get me into the art of squatting in coffee shops. I was new to the “scene “ and never knew what made up a good coffee shop. Cozy living room feels paired with one of the best cappuccinos, ever, you can’t go wrong with stopping by.

4. BrewShot

The ultimate coffee shop with the best cortado I’ve ever had ( next to Spain). Every once in a while I find myself stopping in. It’s in a small area in town, slightly secluded from the rest but incredibly peaceful and quiet. The staff is incredibly friendly and have I mentioned their empanadas? I’m gonna leave that right there.

With the on-the-go nature of what I do, cafes have been my go-to workspaces. I take everything into consideration. Bathrooms, Wifi and Comfort are V important.
