First come the “will yous”, then follows the wedding planning. One day you’re planning outfits around your Claire’s costume jewelry, then the next you wake up still stunned at how you’re wearing such a serious diamond on your ring finger, about to walk down the aisle!
I received an invitation from Forevermark for a masterclass they were hosting about the basics of every girl’s favorite gem: Diamonds. As I am still getting used to such a beautiful rock on my own finger, I knew I wanted to learn more about it and what better way to than to participate in Forevermark’s masterclass!
We were each given a tray of rough diamonds, tiny tweezers and diamond loupes to start the class with. I decided to sit at the very front! You can’t blame a girl for wanting to learn a few knowledgeable details on diamonds, can you?
Our instructor walked us through the key steps of how Forevermark hand selects their diamonds from countless other diamonds for their inherent beauty, craftsmanship, and integrity. Did you know that less than 1% of the world’s diamonds are eligible to become a Forevermark diamond?
Step 1: Sourcing a Forevermark Diamond
Every Forevermark diamond is not only beautiful and rare, but also responsibly sourced. Sourcing Forevermark diamonds responsibly means that throughout their journey from rough to polished diamonds, particular care has been taken to ensure responsible business practices, support for the advancement of women and protection of the natural world, which is the ultimate source of diamonds.
Step 2: Sorting
Once the rough diamonds have been mined, expert diamond sorters assess the diamonds according to their natural characteristics including color, size and shape to find those that have the potential to become a Forevermark diamond.
Step 3: Expert Craftsmanship
Diamantaires selected by Forevermark use meticulous care in cutting and polishing diamonds to meet the strict quality criteria that Forevermark requires.
Step 4: Selection and Grading
At the Forevermark Diamond Institute, experts draw on proprietary, state-of-the-art
technologies and more than 128 years of experience as part of De Beers Group to examine each diamond, going beyond the technical 4C’s criteria to hand-select only the most beautiful to become Forevermark.
Step 5: Inscription
Each Forevermark diamond is inscribed with a unique identification number and the Forevermark icon, assuring it meets their standards of beauty, rarity and responsible sourcing.
The inscription is 1/20th of a micron deep – 1/5,000th the depth of a human hair –and is placed on the table facet of the diamond, using confidential, proprietary technology. It does not affect the internal quality of the diamond and can only be seen through a Forevermark Viewer.
Learning each step and sorting through rough diamonds was such an afternoon treat. To top it all off, we were able to meet Jade Trau, one of Forevermark’s select design partners. I was in complete awe of her beautiful collection! With a deep understanding of the way jewelry should be worn, Jade designs jewelry for women who personify style and value heirloom-worthy treasures that will stand the test of time.
I walked out of the class not only with increased knowledge about Forevermark diamonds, but having had a once in a lifetime experience learning of the promise and commitment that stands behind every diamond they mine. Thank you so much Forevermark for having me in your class!
