I had so much fun collaborating with Ryan Chua over fashion week last week! Photos and the whole Fashion Week Wrap up next on my blog! But for now, I’m not an expert at tackling the Monday Blues but from experience, mind over matter and a few of these below have helped me. Adjust your thinking Mondays are my favorite day of the week, which may sound a little crazy to some, but to me they feel a little like fresh starts. Whatever the high and lows of last week, Mondays are a blank page to start the week off as you mean to go on. Instead of resenting the end of your weekend, try and feel excited about the beginning of a brand new week. Be productive If you found the time to unwind and relax at the weekend , you most likely will be feeling super recharged come Monday. Utilize these productivity levels to stay focused throughout your work day so you can catch up with any overdue deadlines, be more present in meetings, and tick off everything on your to-do list. Make the time to connect Human connections are vital for our happiness, so make sure you’re making the time on Monday to reconnect with the people around you. If you work in an office maybe check in with how your co-workers weekend was, or if you work from home maybe Skype call another working-from-home friend to catch up and check in. Don’t just reply to emails on autopilot Monday morning for me always means one thing – emails. Taking the time to not just churn out replies on autopilot makes all the difference I’ve found – it means you are a pleasant part of someone else’s day when you arrive in their inbox, and you’re also paving the way for better communication between you both in the future. Whether it’s freelance clients, co-workers on a student project, or maybe a team you manage, remembering to stay human in your replies makes the whole process a whole lot more rewarding. Tackle your least favorite tasks of the week This is something I try to do every Monday, as that way I’m making my life easier for myself for the rest of the week. By tackling the more tedious but pressing tasks on my to-do list on a Monday, I end the day knowing I have more enjoyable tasks ahead…

Good Morning and Happy Sunday to all of you beautiful people! Today I will act as your morning paper ~ only better. They say to have a great day, you have to walk to it. To have a divine day, you have to start it off with optimism and confident thoughts. This is where I come into play. You all are my inspiration, so the main goal of GreyLayers is to only be your constant inspiration right back. I am beautiful We all have something about ourselves that we love – what’s that thing for you? Focus on it, have a look in the mirror, put on a smile and tell yourself you’re beautiful, because you are! I can make a difference Your day job might not make you feel like you’re changing the world, but you can make a huge difference by simply having a positive attitude and passing that on to others. Happiness is contagious, so spread it around! I am enough You are worthy of whatever opportunities that come your way! Today is a new day Yesterday is in the past – and we can only ever live in the present. Forget what went wrong yesterday and think about what can go right today! It doesn’t have to be perfect So many of us spend our lives in the quest of perfection, only to feel forever unfilled as this perfection doesn’t actually exist. Whatever you’re making/creating/doing, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Don’t be so hard on yourself We can all be our own worst critics. If you make a mistake, it’s not the end of the world and they can’t be undone, but they can be rectified. Pencils have erasers for a reason. Breathe Feeling stressed? Anxious? Annoyed? Just breathe. You’ll feel better, I promise. I love you Say this to yourself and mean it! You can only ever be you, so make sure you love who you are. Today will be a good day Any day can be a good day if you choose it to be! I’m grateful for.. Appreciate all the wonderful things, people and opportunities you have in your life. A grateful heart is a beautiful thing, and it shines through in everything you do. A Sunday well spent gives a week of content. Love to all and have a great week ahead! xo,JG

Everyone usually starts writing about Fashion Week’s day une. I shall write about my second. If you were truly committed to Fall this season at the Mercedes – Benz Fashion Week, you would have been draped in knits of cardigans and woolen trenches alongside buckled boots tied up to your knees. Unfortunately, mother nature did not wish to comply and hello, heatstroke it was. All I could muster in the 90 degree September weather was a structured cut out blouse paired with White Embroidered harem pants. Structure and Slouch are the best of friends. Remember that. It shows you don’t take life all too seriously but still mean business. But moving forward toward other details such as the highlight designer for the day also known as: The more important detail. Leah Da Gloria was mesmerizing. Sitting front row viewing the show I started dreaming about my own wedding. Waking up and going through photos from the show felt like I’ve dreamt the entire night. It felt as if every sequin, lace and stitch was intertwined with my brain. I had too much love for her collection, that it naturally embedded in me to translate the beauty into writing. Da Gloria was quite possibly one of the most passionate designer at New York Fashion week– she draws so much from her surroundings , showing so much grace, chicness and elegance in her work! Her gowns were a treat after watching all minimal shows and color blocked runways. The most intense 8 minutes of my life. Being seated at front row, my weakness was taking too many photos ~Although you can never take too many, right? Givenchy, Marchesa, Prada and Versace. Then there’s street wear. You’ve probably already released that fitted / Jordans / graphic tee generic image in your head when the word street wear came around. Sure, day beds are furnishings meant to brighten living rooms, giving them that “ushe” vintage Pier 1-esque feel to your home. But elaborate on that day bed just a tad harder and it can belong in your backyard balcony for a whole ‘nother outdoor getaway feel. Yup, no need for that Miami trip. No no, I am not suddenly switching my blog into an interior blogger’s, although perhaps I should start doing a few posts on that.. But let’s concentrate. Concentrate on the fact that clothing are just as versatile, if not, more. So now I want you to look closely at each patchwork, each detail. Look rigorously at every stitch, corner and lining. Lanvin, Baker, Cardin, Valentino, or perhaps it is my dear friend Wang. Until you are severely certain, look closer. Ladies and Gentlemen, unfortunately, I am fortunately lathered in street wear from head to toe. Mix a mindset of high fashion inspirations with touches of street and you can’t ever go wrong. It’s a promise. Not every pair of sneakers should always only stay within the realm of streetwear. Nor should every HBA, Supreme, or Staple piece every only be worn the street wear way. Think outside the box and change the game. Keep your mind on high fashion as you tweak with the streets’. So if for one second you second guess street wear brands ever again, guess again. They are more versatile than you think. In Collaboration with Evolve Clothing Gallery’s Fall Collection. To order or purchase, check out their Social Mediums and Website. Because there are none. My friends will never understand the idea of a home-cooked meal at 7:30 pm followed by some HGTV for dessert over an EDM concert day in and day out ~ nor will my boyfriend ever really understand how on earth it’s possible to create a look with a dress and a pair of pants. Same goes for collaborations and the psychobable of how only certain people should work with “their kind.” NO. Just because we are in our twenties, does not mean there is a rule of constant racket, beer pong and repetitive tumultuous house music. Alongside the subject of collaborations: Collaborate with people who speak an entirely different language. Collaborate with people who aren’t your age. Work with those who don’t come from the same “range of work” as yourself. Every person you meet tells a story and is a story. They all have something to bring to the table. As for Shresses, well, they have a mind of their own and will one day just find their way to become a crop top or even a jacket. Who on Earth knows. The idea is to think beyond your comfort zone, go beyond what is known to you, explore the weird horizons that the common mind would never think to. There are no limitations. This dress here for instance, now a shress is cut in a very feminine way. If you all know me by now, I love blurring the lines that define what masculine is and what femininity should be. Again, there are no rules. Have fun with it. Lynn of ChicpeaJC, the sweetest most open minded lady I grew incredibly fond of, fell in love with the twist on her little ‘fit during our little collaboration together. She dared to stray from her comforting vintage pieces and went all lathered in leather and Zara , finishing the look off with these fiery red pumps. No rules. And the ones that exist are meant to be broken. At the end of the day, it’ll either be a lesson, a blessing or even a bangin’ outfit. In my case, it was all three, plus a new friend. Jeanne wears [ Cutieshey Dress, Seven for all Mankind Jeans, Forever21 Oxfords ] For more of ChicpeaNJ, her curated to perfection writeups, click here. Thank you Varick for the photos.
