I love coffee. For all of you who’s known me for quite some time now, you know I’ve tried my hardest to shun away from this tall, dark and handsome thang — and failed numerous times as I’ve ( tried ) converting to tea and matcha amongst the many hipster ways. With pros and cons that came with it, I find that NYFW falls into this category as well. While everyone may be out to write about this seaon’s hottest runway trends and backstage nuance, I’m here to write about what no one write about. I find myself reminiscing back in 08 when NYFW was in one place, in tents within the vast Bryant Park grounds. Back when the music was louder, the designers were stronger and the crowds as classy as the LBD forever is. This season I felt myself unattached more than previous seasons. I found myself in the gargantuan emptiness of the White Sands in New Mexico instead of the Moynihan station. I touched the waters of the Aegan sea and breathed Grecian air while basking in the afternoon Athenian light during coffee breaks by the ruins. To simply put, I found myself occupied by the world than the fashion world. Never a bad thing at all especially when the metropolitan manhattan tundra is at its coldest and your boots are up to your neck. I think most times we are so inclined to not miss this oh so incredibly important part of the year that we actually do miss out. In adventures someplace else. In making new relationships within new grounds. In exploring new heights in new parts of the globe. Remember fashion sleeps with one eye open, trends come and go but your time, is ticking as you are reading this. Fashion week is not the end all and be all. I needed this break and I’m here to remind you to take breaks as often as you’d like because it’s okay. So go. Not for the gram, not for trends. Go someplace else and make that mark, drinking that cup of coffee elsewhere ( Perhaps September NYFW which is where I’ll see you all at again!). Huge thanks to my every loving, ever supportive TEAM GREYLAYERS for taking care of NYFW this season in Manhattan.
